KH Hasyim Muzadi, yang juga pengasuh Pondok Pesantren Al Hikam Depok mengatakan, memang ada beberapa hal yang membuat isu tersebut menjadi sangat sensitif terkait dengan agama Islam. Di kalangan umat Islam seluruh dunia, ada tiga hal yang tidak boleh disinggung atau direndahkan, yakni : Allah SWT, Rasulullah SAW, dan Kitab suci Alquran.
Kedua, fenomena demo 4 November 2016 tentu secara lahiriah dipimpin oleh beberapa tokoh yang merasa terpanggil untuk membela kesucian kitabnya. Namun jumlah yang hadir membuktikan adanya kekuatan (energi spritiual) yang dahsyat dari pengaruh Alquran tersebut. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan para pemimpin yang melakukan demo atau mengumpulkan masa tanpa dorongan spiritualisme tersebut tidak mungkin dapat menggerakan umat yang berjumlah jutaan. Mereka berjalan dengan damai, tertib dan siap untuk berkorban. Sehingga sesungguhnya tidak perlu dicari dalangnya, provokator atau siapa yang membayar. Karena provokator dan bayaran setingkat apa pun tidak akan mampu menggalang kekuatan tersebut. Yang ada mereka akan menempel pada gelombang besar untuk kepentingannya, bukan kemampuan menciptakan gelombang itu sendiri.
Ketiga, kedahsyatan energi Alquran tersebut hanya bisa dimengerti, dirasakan dan diperjuangkan oleh orang yang memang mengimani Alquran. Tentu sangat sulit untuk diterangkan kepada mereka yang tidak percaya kepada Alquran, berpikiran atheis, sekuler dan liberal. Karena mereka jangankan memahami energi Alquran, menerima Alquran pun belum tentu bisa. Sehingga perdebatan antara keimanan kepada Alquran dan ketidakpercayaan kepada Alquran hanya akan melahirkan advokasi bertele-tele dan berbagai macam rekayasa.
Keempat, Alquran sebagai kitab suci sekaligus kitab pembeda (al-Furqon) yang membedakan antara yang hak dan yang batil. Maka tidak heran kalau kemudian kelihatan di kalangan umat Islam sendiri mana yang bertindak sebagai pejuang, sebagai pengikut perjuangan yang ikhlas tanpa pamrih, yang mengambil posisi memanfaatkan keadaan (kepentingan duniawi sesaat), dan mana yang memang menyelewengkan Alquran. Sedangkan di kalangan non-Muslim sendiri sangat sedikit yang membuat konflik lintas agama dengan kaum Muslimin. Mereka adalah pihak yang sudah basah politisasi dan kapitalisasi ekonomi serta hegemoni kekuasaan. Sedangkan mayoritas mutlak non-Muslim tetap bersatu bersama kaum Muslimin dalam penegakan NKRI.
Kelima, di era demokratisasi politik Indonesia, gerakan pembelaan Alquran tidak akan lolos dari upaya pihak-pihak tertentu dalam melakukan politisasi yang tujuannya membelokkan dan mengaburkan tujuan suci tersebut. Politisasi sebenarnya tidak hanya terjadi pada tanggal 4/11 malam hari, tetapi sesungguhnya telah dimulai semenjak rakyat merasakan penggunaan kekuasaan untuk mendukung atau tidak mendukung salah satu pihak yang memiliki kepentingan.

Karena, apabila hal-hal tersebut dilakukan oleh kaum Muslimin, akan menjadi alat pukul balik terhadap kaum Muslimin itu sendiri, dan dapat mengakibatkan umat Islam bercerai-berai.
