Popo merawat Fahira sebagi seorang Islam kerana menghormati agama yang dianut cucu dan tiga anaknya yang lain. Dia merawat sang cucu di rumah yang terletak di Taman Merdeka, Batu Berendam, Melaka, Malaysia.
"Disebabkan ibu dan bapak Fahira tidak sehat, saya ambil dan jaga Fahira saat dia umur empat bulan, sementara dua lagi adik lelaki Fahira sekarang berumur 11 dan 18 tahun dijaga oleh besan saya di Jasin," ujarnya.
Sebelum memutuskan untuk merawat Fahira, Popo bertanya kepada anak sulungnya, Faridah Nurul Ain (51), tentang apa yang dibolehkan dan tidak dalam Islam. Dia bertanya detail, hingga cara mengepel lantai.
"Ada juga pinggan mangkuk dan cawan yang dibuang dan sejak itu juga saya dan suami sudah tak pelihara anjing," kata Popo yang kehilangan suami dua tahun silam.
Popo mengaku telah mengajar Fahira untuk berpuasa sejak berumur 5 tahun. Dia tak ingin cucu kesayangan itu sekadar tahu Islam, tapi ingin Fahira benar-benar mempraktikkan Islam yang baik dan benar.
“Saya sendiri antar dia sekolah agama, antar dia mengaji walaupun hujan, dan saya pukul dia kalau tak sholat saat kecil dulu, sebab saya mau dia kenal agamanya dan hidup dengan beragama,” ujar Popo.
“Saya mau dia sukses, ada pendidikan dan saya bersyukur Fahira sudah khatam tiga kali, bisa sembahyang dan baca Quran selain sekarang ini belajar jurusan Sains Komputer di Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Jasin,” tambah dia.
Popo selalu berdoa, apabila dirinya sudah wafat kelak, Fahira sudah mendapatkan suami yang baik. Bisa menjadi pembimbing dan tempat bergantung bagi Fahira.
