Teman saya yang wartawan senior, Freddy Ndolu, pukul 05.00 WIB menelepon saya. ”Pak Ketua, ini santer berita, Pak Ketua tadi bertemu Pak SBY di Cikeas untuk mengatur putusan. Saya sering bertemu Presiden dalam acara-acara kenegaraan atau hari-hari besar nasional yang bisa dilihat oleh umum. Tapi kami tak pernah berbicara perkara yang sedang ditangani MK.
Meski dalam beberapa hal saya mengkritik SBY, dalam hal ini saya jujur memuji SBY. Dia tidak pernah menanyakan perkara apa pun ketika bertemu dengan saya. Memang SBY pernah menghubungi saya menanyakan vonis MK yang sudah diputus, bukan perkara yang sedang diperiksa.
Misalnya saat MK memutus bahwa paspor dan KTP bisa dipergunakan untuk memilih di TPS, SBY menelepon saya untuk memastikan apa benar vonisnya begitu dan bagaimana detail teknisnya. Saat MK memutus bahwa jabatan Jaksa Agung Hendarman Supandji harus berakhir atau segera diangkat lagi, SBY yang belum mendapat salinan vonis langsung menelepon saya untuk memastikan.
”Saya ingin tahu dari Pak Mahfud agar nanti Presiden tidak salah dalam melaksanakan vonis MK,” kata SBY ketika itu. Jadi kalau Presiden menghubungi Ketua MK tidak boleh membicarakan perkara yang sedang berjalan atau sesuatu yang berpotensi menjadi perkara di MK.
